The Canadian teenager
19yrs old, Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu made history by winning the US Open 2019 women’s singles title by defeating world no.8, Serena Williams. The game was not easy for Bianca as her opponent was 37yrs. old Serena Williams who is 6times US Open champion and 23 Grand Slam winner. And the match crowd was supporting loudly to Serena. However, Bianca kept her cool and won her first Grand Slam title. Bianca is the first Canadian to win such a major tournament. With this, she also becomes the second teenager to win US Open title after Maria Sharapova (2006).
Converting the Dream into Reality
Bianca with her hard work and consistent performance turned her childhood imagination into reality. At 15, she used to imagine herself as playing against tennis great Kim Clijsters in the U.S. Open. She had also written a fake cheque(“Check” in American English) in her name for the US Open winning prize amount. And now after 3 yrs. she made it a reality by winning the US Open title and received the winning prize cheque (Check) of $3.85 million.
Not in top 200 to World No.5
12 months ago, Bianca was not ranked even in the world’s top 200 and was suffering from the injury. However, she fought back and in 2019 she performed consistently defeating world’s top 10 players. She is now at No.5 position in WTA rankings(Women’s Tennis Association).
